I ordered a dinner setting and some jewellery online from Anthropologie in September last year for $285. There was a problem with their computer system which, unawares to me, resulted in the order being duplicated and sent twice. I learned of this when I noticed that my credit card had been charged twice.
I eventually received delivery of the two identical dinner settings and jewellery and contacted Anthropologie to notify them of their mistake. I asked for the second unauthorised charge to be refunded to me. I also offered to return the second set of goods to them via mail at their own expense (I am in Australia).
After many months of frustrating email communications with Anthropologie I was unable to retrieve the duplicate charge of $285 from them. They simply would not address the issue of their mistake directly or admit liability. This was very disappointing considering that they are such a large company who pride themselves on customer service. I think that they chose to ignore the problem because I am located overseas and there is little I can do to challenge them on it.
I did let them know how that I would be sharing the details of my shopping experience with others via the internet - which brings me here today!
