Ripoff Company wants money that I don't owe?

Today, July 22 I came home from work and had an envelope in the mail. Didn't know who it was from so I opened it, and it said I owed Sprint PCS $675 and that I needed to pay this money immediately.

I was so upset, I almost had a heart attack! I immediately called this company and talked to someone named Eric, he was nice and all. I asked him what this was about and he said that Sprint said that I hadn't paid my bill and I owed $675. I laughed and said..."whoa wait a minute... I owe Sprint PCS $46 for this month's bill and that's all." He said nope, they turned my name in to them and that I owed $675. I was very upset. I have always paid my bill monthly and have never owed $675. He told me that I needed to contact Sprint and give them my account number. I had my cell phone bill right in front of me and I owed $46. And for what its worth, and this is important my cell phone is active and if I owed that much, guess what? It would be turned off.

So I said I would call him back as soon as I got done with Sprint. I called Sprint and talked to Doug. He was a very nice customer service man and I told him that I had received this collection letter and that I was very very upset. Doug said just a sec and looked up my account. He said I was in good standing, I owed them $46 and it was due August 5th. I said well, according to GC Services Collection Agency, I owed them $675. Doug says wait a minute, let me check with someone. So he puts me on hold and calls their section of collection and the lady says..."why are you calling me on an active phone. No Ms. Seamster is in good standing, she owes us $46." So Doug says I need to call the Fraud Section of Sprint, seems like someone is using my name... Which I think is pretty funny since (1) I have never received a bill before on this; (2) My last name was misspelled on the bill. I thank him and call the Fraud Section and of course they are closing for the night but they would try to find out.

So I call Eric back and tell him, Sprint says no I don't owe them anything other than $46. I am in good standing, my cell phone is active. Eric says to me well Sprint has to contact them and get this fixed. I asked Eric how they got my name and if there was a cell phone affixed to this account. He said no there wasn't? I don't understand this. I thought oh my, is this a scam of some sort? So Eric tells me to call back in 7 days to see if this is all taken care of by Sprint? I said now let me ask you something, if I totally ignore this, will you seek a judgement against me? He said they could. I said, go ahead, I will turn around and sue you, Sprint PCS for the false bill.

So tomorrow back on the phone I go with the Fraud Section, and let me tell you, I will get this all in writing that it is all settled. If they do come after me, I can turn around and have my day in court.
