I found out about Lois Hancock in the Indianapolis Star. I called and she said she thought she had a male and female puggle puppy left. This was my first red flag, she thought... Why didn't she know? Didn't she care for them daily? I had read reviews of this woman on this website but being desperate for the love of a puppy and due to the fact that they were so old... I had high hopes that because of these awful reviews that this woman straightened up her act. I took two friends with me and we all thought it was okay and were pretty lovestruck by the puppies (this is where you get stuck... You see the puppies and they're so cute & you feel bad for them). The home was dirty and hoarder-ish but nothing I would say that was absolutely outrageous.
It was DEFINITELY dirty but not destroyed... Based on the appearance I wasn't convinced that this woman was who the old reviews described. There were many cages with the adult dogs and the puppies were on porch when we arrived (she does this to make it seem like these dogs live in her house). Behind the house is a building lined with cages... This is where I assume she keeps the dogs. She was wrong and they were both females yet she told us that the puppies lived inside her home with her Yorkies. If this was the case then she should have not have had any doubt about the sexes of the puppies, all she had to do was look at them. (All things I did not think until after I realized what a sick excuse for a human being she was). She allowed us to see the puppies parents and so I felt pretty good about the entire situation. I gave her $200 cash and went on my way.
I took my puppy home and called the vet first thing Monday morning to schedule an appointment to insure this puppy was healthy. On Tuesday, my sweet puggle, Layla, and I went to the vet to find that she had a serious condition with her knee that could potential cost $2500 to fix. The vet told me that based on this puppies condition that they would take the puppy back to the breeder for a full refund (they were not aware of the reviews or conditions). I could not take my sweet dog back to the breeder but i knew I could not care for the way she deserved. Luckily the GREAT people at were nice enough to take in Layla but it was by far one of the hardest things I have ever had to do.
DO NOT GIVE THIS WOMAN A CHANCE. The last 48 hours have been so emotionally draining and I wish I could go back in time and taken everyone's word for it. Although I am so glad that Layla is no longer with Lois at her puppy mill... I am devastated that $200 of my money has contributed to this sick cycle. If you are reading this and looking for a dog, I PROMISE that it is not worth it to give Lois a shot. It is better to adopt. Please check with your local shelters and also Our Lil Bit of Heaven. Your money when adopting continues to help save other dogs. I hope one day this woman is shut down because she is a heartless, disgusting woman.
Sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company. Plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
