Took my husbands son to the ER in Ocala. I provided the ER with his EX-wifes insurance information by giving them her insurance card. I paid that night the co-pay associated with her insurance. They treated my stepson in the ER and we checked out and I stopped by and even asked was there any other money owed for the visit because I know nothing about her insurance. The clerk said no I had paid the copay and that was it. A month later I get a bill from Florida physicans billing me for $140.00 I called the number on the bill and the lady told me they did not receive the insurance info from the hospital and they had the wrong date of birth for him. So once I gave her the correct date of birth and faxed her a copy of the insurance card and even mad a copy and attached it to the bill with a note stating the date time and who I talked with. Also that if there was still a bill after the filled it with the insurance please send me a updated bill. Well they filled the insurance for the florida ER physicians and what was left was $60.00 no big deal paid the bill have my cancelled check and attached to the bill in my personal file. Then in 2009 out of the blue my husband get a Nasty phone call while we were driving down the road and i could hear the woman speaking very loud and demanding to him. He finally handed me the phone and for a good 5 minutes no joke she kept talking and then she said "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME!" is a very rude loud voice and i said honey everyone in Marion county could hear you! I asked what this was about because nothing she said was about a debt. She started to speak to me like I was stupid and worthless. I asked her to stop talking to me in that tone and get to the point of what she wanted. Then she told me my dead beat husband had not paid the $60.00 owed to the florida ER physicans and she wanted a payment now or she would have him arrested. I started laughing and told her to stop. I told her I had paid the bill I had all the information at home and that we were on the road to get my stepson and as soon as we returned home I could fax her the proof of payment. She then said "oh the dead beat is going to play daddy this weekend!" by this point I was very much holding my temper. I informed her if she used any more words to describe my husband other by his name I was going to file a complaint. So I took her name an a return number and hung up. When we returned home I call asked to speak to her and actually got to speak with the same person again. I gave her the date of the payment and faxed while I was on the phone with her a copy of the front and back of the check showing it was paid. She said she received the copy and would talk to her supervisor. Nothing from them now 2012 we get a call out of the blue and same thing but now with fees they state we owe $240. But today they would settle for $140. I told her no I had paid the bill and on time and i still had my receipts. I again faxed them to her while on the phone an she said that was fine she got the proof of payment but they would need to collect the fees for the collection and that was $140. So i asked why it even went to collections. I told her I was not about to pay for their mistake. She started to talk ghetto and calling me all sorts of names and that they would call child services and have my stepson taken away. I told her go ahead he is 19years old let them take him it would save on my light bill and food bill. She told me I was not funny. I informed her I was not attempting to be funny. I again told her I would not pay because nothing was owed and I faxed a Cease and Desist letter along with a nice letter explaining this issue using small words so they would be able to understand the letter. I also faxed a copy of my receipt showing nothing was late. They had the nerve to call back and talk trash about the Cease and Desist letter. I asked did they under stand the letter or did they need me to explain it to them. I asked them never to call me again and hung up. I fully intend to fill a complaint and get a lawyer to make them stop. They are jerks who need to be shut down and florida ER physicians should be ashamed to be associated with a group like this.
PS. My husband is no dead beat dad. He goes above and beyond for his child. Even now with him being 19years old living with us for free. We still pay his medical bills and what we can help with.
