Charing when service is suspended or disrupted

My husband James hasn't had a full time job since November and we had started to get behind in our bills. Since we didn't need Verizon as as much as the mortgage, electric, or water bill we didn't pay for Janyuary because we didn't have the money do pay it. So on January 23 our services were disconnected. On February 5 my husband James called them to see what the balance was because our daughter was going to pay to have it turned back on, but he didn't have that amount in his account. The lady said the balance was $229.51, so he called again on February 20, the lady said it was $455.60.

So my husband asked how did it get to be that much when we had no service for almost a month. She said we had activity and he said to her, how when we hadn't had any service and wanted to know who was using the service. That's when he was given those fees. He got the run around, so he asked to speak to the supervisor and she said that they had added $85.00 plus other fees for being turned off. We are struggling to pay this and here they are adding extra fees because we missed a month. My husband and I think this is a rip off. That's a lot of fees from the orginal $229.51. We would like for you to check into this matter. I know there are other probably more than us.
