TAG This company will bleed you dry with fees just so you can work for them

TAG is the only freight/courier company I know that will fee you to death just so you can keep working for them. Dispatch tells you the job bills out at $XXX. XX, then you come to find out that you are only going to get 42% of that amount, plus then they take out what they say is a 5% brokers fee for every job, but when you look at it, it is really 10.5% that they take back. On top of that, before you can do your invoicing to get get your first paycheck, they force you to buy Occupational and Accidental and Cargo insurance which has been $102/ month; just got the notice today (Feb 21) that the rate is going up to $120/month effective March 1st.

On top of that, you have to purchase a business license which in Long Beach is $451/year (I went with the DBA/FBN route which is $146 instead of the license, they prefer the license though), plus a Motor Carrier Permit from the DMV which is $120/year, plus the Commercial Insurance at $300CSL level which is (depending on your insurance broker) usually around $1800 / year, plus they want you to buy a Boost Mobil phone and plan which plus the cost of the phone is around $50/month.

Then the work they end up giving you are these runs from McMaster Carr in Santa Fe Springs that pay $10,12, 15. Gulfstream at Long Beach Airport to Montebello pays $20. I hooked up with them in the middle of December, and to this point have only done a small handful of jobs that pay anything decent. Maybe six jobs that have good? How is a driver suppose to make any money with these guys? They claim they have 30 "brands" under them so there will always be work, but I've sat at home all day long with nothing, then they try to throw a low paying McMaster Carr on me during late afternoon rush hour.

Yesterday I came back from Bakersfield on a run (not a TAG run), I'm at Magic Mountain (5 & 126) and he wants to know if I can a pick up in Ontario, 75 miles away, the job bills out at $69, he'll pay me $60 (why the high percentage this one and only time I'll never know, just depends on how desperate they are I guess). I said Ontario to where? He says Ontario to Ontario. I said that I'd be spending the $60 just in fuel to get there, do the job, and then go home in Long Beach. Crazy... If you are looking around at companies to work for, do NOT go here.
