To whom it may concern,
The first week of February I locked myself out of my house in south Salt Lake City, Utah. The doorknob of the front door was locked when I pulled the door shut, not the deadbolt. I googled "locksmith Salt Lake City" on my iPhone and called www.armored-lock.com. They told it would be $19.99 for the service call and said the locksmith would give me an estimate upon arrival. The locksmith arrived about 35 minutes later. He gave me an estimate of $179 on top of the $19.99 service call charge. He said it may take 2 minutes or 20. I said the price was too high and declined. He was upset and called his boss who called me back. We agreed on $119.99 total. I was desperate, it was cold out, and I was limping from a knee injury. The locksmith used a hand pick gun roughly and opened the door within 15 seconds. He said the lock would be fine and would work. However, after he left, it did not work. The key would not turn in the cylinder. I called the company and they said they would fix at no charge. I made appointment for several days later, and they no-showed. I called 40 minutes after the missed appt, and they said they'd send someone. Noone arrived. Several days later I tried to request someone else come out. They put me in touch with a technician who said there was no way they broke my lock and refused to fix out without more money. I declined and ultimately called another local locksmith who fixed the lock and told me that the cap and springs in the lock had come loose which could occur with forced use of a hand pick gun. I later also found out that other locksmiths in the area typically charge about $60 total for such service.
I believe I was price-gouged and that the company should have repaired the broken lock after they said they would. Ultimately, it just required opened and reassembly. Every interaction with this company is shady. The locksmith was rude, intimidating, unprofessional. The call center staff is rude and does not easily give up the company name over the phone.
