I recently broke down on my motorcycle 6 miles west of Lake Isabella, Calif. After calling my insurance company I was put in touch with Inyo County Towing who proceeded to tell me that the closest repair facility was in Bakersfield Calif. And that was the only repair shop where my insurance would pay to have my bike towed to. If I wanted my bike taken to Lancaster, Ca. Where I lived (about 120 miles from my breakdown) the additional charge would be $374.00. I decided $374.00 was too much and to just get my bike to the Bakersfield repair facility at that time. As the facility closed in about 2 1/2 hours I asked the dispatcher if we would make it before closing and was assured that we had plenty of time as the driver was only 1/2 an hour away and the drive was about 40 minutes. A couple of minutes later the driver called to pinpoint my location and when asked by me about the time schedule he reassured that we wouldn't have a problem making it on time. I asked the driver to have his dispatcher call the repair shop and tell them that we were coming in case we were a couple of minutes late. The driver assured me that this would be done (it never was). The tow truck finally showed up 2 1/2 hours later (shop already closed), picked up my bike and took it to Bakersfield and asked me where to put my bike in the (closed shop) parking lot. After my displeasure was evident that I didn't want my $25000.00 motorcycle out all night the towing companies dispatcher had his driver tell me that the towing company had worked out with my insurance company to store my bike in their yard and then my insurance company would pay to tow it to Lancaster. I agreed to this, but would not sign the release that the driver wanted as the bike was still on his truck and we both parted our ways. After about 1/2 hour after the driver left with my bike I got a phone call from Inyo County Towing saying that my insurance company would only pay for towing to their yard and that I would have to pay to get my bike to Lancaster. I told the dispatcher that his driver told me (while on the phone with his dispatcher) the afore mentiond arrangement and was told that " Inyo County Towing was not responsible for anything that their drivers say ". Long story short my insurance DID pay to have my bike towed, by ANOTHER towing company with NO warning to Inyo County Towing that they were coming for the bike. My insurance company said that they are not finished investigating Inyo County Towings practices and I am NEVER going back to them. I was not surprised to find other horror stories about them.
