I took my golden retriever to be groomed by the owner, Shelly Burrell. I had asked around for pricing and my cousin recommended her. For the same size/breed/service she charged him $50. I called to see if my dog was ready for pick up. She said yes and the price would be $90 because he snapped at her.
I questioned that because he is docile in nature. I think it is common for a dog to be nervous and wondered if that was the problem. If he was snapping or trying to bite I would be concerned. She was defensive and said she charged extra for his ill temperament and behavior. My dog was still with her so I sent for his pick up and paid. We called today and she was very hostile and said she did not care if we came back or not and to tell whomever we wanted and do what we felt we needed to do.
My complaint is the way she handled the situation and not just the fee. I don't feel, even if my dog did snap at her, this was handled in a professinal manner. I think if she was experiencing problems with my dog she should have called me before she went up on the fee almost 80%. I was even more upset at her response today. She hung up on us and we were not asking for a refund, but trying to find out what exactly the dog did that was so bad.
He has been to obedience school and is a pet therapy animal. I am very upset and I feel this sort of situation should be addressed. People are leaving their family pet with her and I don't feel she operates in a professional, healthy environment for the pet. We would have appreciated a, "I don't groom large dogs" excuse vs. Ripping us off so we would never come back. $90 for a bath and trim is insane. He was there for a little over 2 hours. Why don't we all become pet groomers if the going rate is now $45 per hour!
