This is not regarding a particular rip off, but for those persons suffering from telephone harassment, here are some ideas. My local phone company offers a program called Privacy Manager and unavailable call blocker, along with Caller ID. If someone with an unavailable number calls, the caller is automatically sent to Privacy Manager. They have to say something and you have the option of taking the call or hanging up. I have call notes so if the caller wishes to leave a message they may do so.
I recently purchased a (name removed) fax machine for my home office. It has Caller ID and a feature I wasn't aware of. It will print out all of the calls that come in on your Caller ID. It automatically prints when there are 30 calls. It shows name (if available), telephone number, date and time of call. You can print a list out anytime you wish, but the auto feature is great.
I recommend this phone service and this type of fax machine for anyone who is being harassed via the telephone. You have an automatic record of all phone calls made to you, time and date of call which is a great record to have. For the record, I do not work for any telephone company and I have no ties to (name removed). There may be other fax machines out there with the same capability. This is the only one I am aware of and the only one I have used personally.
The telephone service is more expensive with the above named features but it's worth it to avoid the hassles of answering the phone when it's a telemarketer. Call notes works well for me since I have only one telephone line and if I am on the Internet anyone trying to contact me can leave a message.
