In May I did research on movers because I was planning an out of state move both personally and professionally for myself and my business. I am a well thought out business savvy woman who gives you the benefit of the doubt always and trusts you until you show that you or your company can no longer be trusted. I was called back by a saleswoman at Peace of Mind Relocation LLC out of Sherman Oak California.
I was living in Houston Texas and was moving across the country to the east coast. I was given a quote but only based upon what I told them I had. Several times I asked for someone to come to my home and look over what needed to be moved as I am 'no expert' here. Several times I was told that they only needed to know what was going... So I told them, and I added several items to be on the safe side. I packed and boxed everything myself taking longer than usual but my things are valuable to me and I worked hard for them, not to mention the sentimental value.
I was quoted over $1500 which I thought was great, but what was even better was I received a quote from a company that quoted me $200 less, so I called them and asked if they would match that price. Quickly they said yes. On June 20 they came to my home and had everything on the truck in less than 3 hours. They price though that I was quoted went from a little over $1300 to now over $2000 and when asked why? My response was this; " Lady you have a lot more stuff!"
My 'stuff' as they called it was already on their truck and I had already given them 1/2 of the money... Now before they delivered it in Ohio I had to either come up with the rest of I could kiss my things good-bye and probably never see them again. What kind of immoral people do this? How can a company have such little respect for someone not to mention another business owner?
What bothered me was that when they delivered my things to a storeage unit where my parents and I awaited them. We were shocked at what we saw come off of this Mayflower Moving Truck. First of all, they were in a hurry, but I wanted to check each item off with my inventory list provided before I left Houston. What I learned was that they lost things, dented brand new appliances, broke tables, put holes in mattresses, and delivered a $3000 grandfather clock without the guts and everything that goes inside to make it function.
What the h*ll was I supposed to do with a clock frame and no weights, chimes, etc? As I stood at the side of their truck in tears they laughed as they not only continued to toss my belongings around but everyone elses that was on that same truck belonging to other people (like myself who were just waiting for their furniture.) This unfortunately gives all moving companies a bad wrap. Please, someone come to my rescue here!
As for the settlement; I marked everything down, filed the complaint in June, got a paper in the mail in September saying thy are working on the claim, and in November sent me a letter stating that according to weight and their $. 60 per pound insurance, I was getting only $252.00 back. My mouth about hit the floor and I was on fire. At this time I was beyond angry, but just wanted this over with, so I had the paperwork signed by a notary at my bank and sent it back. It's now mid January and I still ahve not received my check in the mail. You cannot file a BBB complaint as they are NOT affiliated with them, so please beware anyone shopping for movers to make SURE your company IS.
I was promised to get a call back by the end of the business day and still no call and no money. This is not going to be tolerated by me. Unless I get a check immediately, this unfinished business will get ugly. I don't take getting walked on and abused by ruthless people like this lightly. Grow some balls already and act like a real business. Quit hiding behind a variety of alias names such as Big Sam/Peace of Mind Relocation. If you too have been ripped off by this company or any of their dba's, Contact the US Dept. Of Transportation for the Arbitrator in your new state for details on what steps you can take ask them to advise you on your next move to resolving this unfortunate and disturbing occurrence.
