I was given an moving estimate by Public Van Lines of $823 to move my 600 sqft appt from Los Angeles to Washougal Washington. They told me to pack up my items and call a day before the move to give the exactly how many sq feet I have for the move. I called the day before my move, when my entire appt was packed up, only to find that no one was answering the phones — the entire day! I called over 50 times throughout the day!
Early the next day, the movers arrived and physically took a count of all my boxes, used a measuring tape to figure out square footage that I would take up in their van. They then gave me a "final" quote of $1200- $1250 (and under NO circumstances exceeding this amount). I had to be out of my appt that day, and had no other moving companies lined up so I agreed to the $1200-$1250 (increase of approx $400)
They packed up all of my items and before they left they handed me paperwork with the total charges to be $1850! (More than double what the initial estimate was, and almost 50% more than the "final" maximum estimate they gave me hours earlier). I told them that $1850 was not what I agreed to and to take my items out of the van and they refused.
Additionally, I had tape, boxes and blankets, but the movers insisted that they must use their own... Only to find out that they charged me over $150 for all of these items! This company is ran by fraudulent crooks that increase their fee once they have your home in their possession.
