I purchased a puppy from Rocky Creek Kennel on Saturday morning, January 31. The breeder told us that he was "not eating well" but she sold him to us anyhow.By Sunday night, the puppy had become so violently ill the he had to be seen at the Emergency vet.
Monday morning we took him to our regular vet where he was deemed not viable for sale. We were unable to return him, however, because the drive was 6 hours long and we were certain the pup would not make the trip.
We spent 10 days nursing Teddy, bringing him to and from the vet, having him spend the night there several nights, administering sub-cu fluids, syringe feeding him special food and water and after those 10 days, Teddy died of liver failure. Our vet felt we should've gotten our money back and was shocked to hear that we hadn't.
We contacted the breeder through the whole process, and she only emailed me once or twice to tell me to take him to the vet and to put "Kayo syrup in the pups water" to help keep his blood sugar from dropping. It would not have stopped his liver failure! He was also sold under 8 weeks of age, which broke the state law. It is also against the American ShihTzu Club code of ethics to sell a shihtzu puppy under 12 weeks of age.
I wrote her a certified letter stating I wanted a refund and received no response. Even the Virginia state puppy lemon law states a breeder is responsible for up to 50% of the puppy's purchase price of the vet bills, depending on the cause of death.
I have since reported her to the Better Business Bureau, the Attorney General and now usacomplaints.com. I do not want anyone else to be sold a sick puppy, a puppy that is too young, or to go through what we went thru, including $700 in vet bills, lost wages for time off work and emotional heartbreak, not only for me and my husband, but my children, ages 2,9 and 10.
The breeder is heartless and breeds the death out of her pair of shihtzu. She also cross breeds (shihtzu/schnauzer) which is against the breeders.net code of ethics. She is cold and heartless and I am so upset and disappointed with her, not only as a breeder but also as a human being. She is ONLY in it for the money, not the love or betterment of the breed. As long as she's making a buck, she doesn't care who gets hurt.
I'd like for her to look my two year old daughter in her sweet blue eyes and answer her question every time she asks me, "Where'd Teddy go?"
