First off, I'm a 25 year old African american college graduate who works at a hospital in Danvers Massachusetts making $44,500 per year.
I spoke with an agent at the office of lindas rentals in Beverly and told them I was looking for a 1 bedroom in the Beverly, Salem area and that my price range was between 1,000 and $1,200. The agent quickly told me that they have many listings in those towns and told me because of how much I make that as long as my credit and references came back fine, I'd have a great shot at being rented to.
After looking at the apartment (that I fell in love with) I followed the agent back to lindas rentals, filled out a $25.00 non-refundabe application fee and put a full months rent ($1,100) down on the apartment. I was told I was the first person to put a deposit down, and because of that, lindas rentals would take the listing off the market until I was approved or denied.
Fast. Forward to 2 days later, I received a phone call letting me know that Lindas Rentals had denied me. I couldn't understand why. My credit is good I'm employed, and I already put a deposit down. One day later, I received a phonecall from the agent who had been helping us. He called to let us know he had quit. I asked "why?". He told me it was because lindas rentals had demise my application because I am "black". Don't ever do business with Lindas Rentals in Beverly Massachusetts.
