Lux Nail salon has a big sign on the side of their building that reads "Special Manicure and Pedicure $17.95" and on the interior walls of the salon there are smaller versions of this special with the same text and price. I went there to get my nails done today, 8/11, with a friend and when it came time to pay, they asked for $19. I asked why $19, the sign reads $17.95. They replied that the cost for the special is $17.95 plus tax. No only does the sign not indicate that, the last time I checked my math, $17.95 nyc sales tax (1.59) comes to $19.54. Additionally when they write the receipt they just put $19 and do not break out the tax portion. It's not that I would rather have paid the extra 54 cents, it is false advertising and they are using the $17.95 special to draw in consumers. I believe this is unethical and there are some unfair business practices and perhaps tax fraud that should be investigated.
