Finding the right movers is hard. We did our homework and went with the one that made us feel comfortable. Wow where we wrong about them.
They showed up a day late, our contact person said the weather was bad and since it was December we believed it. I was already a basket case at this point. We had everything packed and we just wanted to get the whole thing over.
The next day, driver kept telling us we were going over the weight on the quote. They only had to pack the big stuff, sofa, 2 beds, 4 small chairs, a dresser, a few book cases, and 2 TV stands. But they used over 40 feet of bubble wrap and 40 rolls of tape on those few things. I kept seeing dollar signs.
After they finished packing the truck, the driver told me I could go with them to have the truck weighed and pay $5600 for the weight or pay a flat fee of $4000. Since he already had me sick about the whole thing we took the flat fee.
Two weeks later, we called to have our belongings delivered. It took two more weeks for the truck to get us our stuff to us at 6pm on a Saturday night. This was over a week late and all our stuff were hanging off the back of a Simi only held on by 3 straps. They drove from LA to Denver with our stuff like this in a snow storm!
As they unloaded the shambles of our furniture I realized one of the helpers was drunk! Our 6 foot bookcase was L shaped, my 3 year olds bike was missing parts, 3 small bookcases where broken, and many things where missing or broken. This was just the beginning of the drama.
They put a hole in the ceiling trying to bring the box spring in the bedroom. When they couldn't get it in they were just going to leave it out side in the snow storm. I had to show them how they could get it in the room.
The drunken guy put our beds together, as the other two finished unloading. He must have thought the extra screws were his. They left at 9 pm with promises of returning the next day to finish. This is where the fun began.
I sat on the bed I so desperately missed and it was very unstable. We took the mattresses and box spring off to discover it was not screwed together at all. Both beds had the crossbars just set in and the head and foot boards where held on by 2 screws.
Needless to say they never showed up again. This left us to discover all the other broken and missing items. And you would think it would end there.
Now the claim process has begun. But the phone is disconnected and my painstakingly done claim form was refused by their offices. We are at a loss for now, but don't underestimate two angry Cajun women.
