After sending $2,834.66 written out to a company called Beckens Moving, the movers showed up at our house with paperwork for us to sign under the name Serenity Van Lines. They showed up at our house in a truck so small even my 6 yr. Old wondered how in the world were they going to fit all of our stuff in the truck. Then charged us an extra $350 for another truck the next day.
As part of the agreement over the phone, we were told that packing our belongings is a service they provide and we were quoted a fee for this service which was an extra $800. Upon arriving at our home, the movers informed me that they wanted me to pack the kitchen. I reminded them that we were being charged an extra fee for this service and was told, "Ok, no problem" and then was asked several more times by them to please pack the kitchen. Supposedly part of the $800 was to pay for packing materials, yet they showed up with no packing paper and had to use some that we already owned. Also, I thought asking for a tip was extremely unprofessional. The packing process was so disorganized, I couldn't believe that they had actually done this before.
On the second day of services, not only did they show up 3 hours late, the guy in charge claimed that he had forgotten the inventory list and stickers. Everything that was loaded onto the truck that day was done without any record, nor were there any labels or stickers on boxes or loose items. After complaining about them not having the inventory list, we were told not to worry they would do an inventory when they unloaded the truck before placing our stuff onto the 18-wheeler. We were not happy about this, but what could we do?
We watched in disgust as they carelessly handled our belongings by basically tossing our stuff into boxes and shoving our stuff as tightly as they could into the truck with many small items loose not even in boxes.By the end of the night when they strapped our mattresses and a bakers rack to the outside of the truck, I was too tired and disgusted to care.
When we received our stuff at our new location, the guys doing the unloading had to bring the boxes into a designated room, we had to open them to see what was inside, then move them again into the room in which the boxes belonged because the boxes were not labeled. When they were done with the unloading, we realized they had not delivered a 52 in. TV, a large tool chest, patio furniture, box springs and mattresses, an electric lawn mover, an inflatable pool, and an exercise machine, all of which we have yet to receive.in the next few days, we noticed much more that was missing. They also damaged our appliances and broke the legs on my antique table.
In the days following, calls were made everyday trying to get some answers. We were told there was truck that would be coming into the wharehouse that might contain our stuff. During the call the next day, we were told the arrival of the truck was delayed because of weather. The next day, "No, your stuff was not on this truck, but there will be another one coming in." And on and on. I believe this was all a bunch of lies. Finally, we were told to just make a claim so that we could be reimbursed for our damaged and lost property. They sent us information for a claim company:

We think that the $561.00 that they are suggesting the company pay us is unacceptable and will not accept it.
My advice to anyone looking for a moving company is to do your research and DO NOT do business with a moving company that requires payment up front before any services are done.
