Harvey Coffey moved from Gorman, TX to Ranger, TX and then to River Oaks, TX. I have no address for him in River Oaks. He claims to have been repairing foundations, leveling houses, for the past 23 years. On his letterhead it states 14 years. He brought out substandard cheap materials, used wood shims (the kind you would level a refrigerator or cabinet with) and used these on my house. He used 8x8 inch concrete pads for supports.
In the two weeks he was at the house with his helper he placed a total of 5 supports under one area of the house. He then told me I needed additional 2x4x8 supports in the attic. This again turned out to be a lie. I paid 1/2 down for the foundation job, then less than one week later - he wanted an advance on the down payment. He is about as big a crook as you can be. Less than 2 days after I paid 1/2 of the 1/2 final payment, he was calling for more money. The total of the two weeks he was at my house - others drove by and saw them sitting in the garage having a drink.
He then threatened me if I didn't advance him more money he would have the lady he owes his car payment to come to my house or call me and demand it. This is when I told Billy the helper that I want him off my property and to never threaten me again. He was going to use 4x4 for beams, wood shims, and 8x8 inch blocks for the sole support. My kitchen floor did need to come out, which he was paid for that in addition to the 50% down payment for the entire job, but they never completed the reflooring of the kitchen. It should have been dug out at least 12-16 inches to provide air ventalation.
The beams he was using for the kitchen floor were no beams at all, but ONE 8x8 inch block. He tries to lay a sad story on you about his mother and that he's poor and that he needs advancements for his car payment or it will be reposessed. Do not hire this person - HARVEY COFFEY. He will not return phone calls so that I can get his address. I have filed a complaint with the Better Buisiness Bureau, the Tarrant County District Attorney, the Attorney General State of Texas and the Texas Board of Professional Engineers in Austin, TX. He is using "Engineering" on his letterhead, which is a violation with the Texas Board of Professional Licensed engineers.
He has had 3 different vehicles since I first was referred to him from my realtor. I think he has conned her too. He is not reputable and please look out Dallas Fort Worth area for this thief. I contacted another foundation company down in Gorman, TX - they had heard of the name of the individual, never the company "Sky Walker Engineering Foundation Repair", to which they stated - "he is not a foundation repair company - hs is only a handyman". I also contacted the Gorman police department who knew him and his helper. He had performed house leveling on her home some time back and she claimed he did a horrible job.
I will be visitng the River Oaks Police Departmen tomorrow to try to get an address for him up around her so that I can start civil proceedings. He is a RIP OFF ARTIST and does horrible work besides. You would think if you took the man to Lowes or Home Depot to pick out some 2x4's he would at least make sure they were not BOWED and may be knowledgeable enough to tell you what type of R rating insulation you may need in your attic??? One would think, but NOT - each time we went to the hardware store to pick out material, Harvey just stood around as he was dazed and confused.
His helper Billy is quite nice and you can speak with him in a civil manner. Do NOT give this man one penny of yours - he will come back many times and ask for more. A total of two weeks he was there (well except one day he had to go to Gorman or Ranger to pay his mother's nursing home bill, so he said and another time (twice in fact) he had to go back to move his dog to someone's house to be watched, then not less than a day or two later had to go back and move the dog again and take him to the vet. This man has many personal issues as well - he is on nerve medicine (possibly that explains his violent demanding and threating episodes)??? Just saying - you have been pre-warned!!!
