I went into this store today to close everything out regarding my mailbox rental. I lost my job, was unable to pay the bill and had to let the box go.

I have been in this store several times to check mail. Whenever there wasn't anything in the actual box, I asked the employees to check. At least 3 times this person was the female owner. Each time I asked if there was mail, I was told there was not - that nothing had arrived for me.

Today, I turned in the key. The female owner takes the key and I asked if there was any mail. She goes into the back of the store, comes back out with a BAG of my mail. I could see there were at least 5 pieces of mail, and she proceeds to tell me that if I don't pay the amount due, she can't give me my own mail.

I told her that was ridiculous, and since I had asked several times before over the last few months if there was any mail, and was lied to and told NO, that now she was charging me to give it me. She told me it was ridiculous that I didn't pay my bill. Granted, I couldn't pay the bill... But I asked if any mail was being held and I was being lied to each time!

She then makes this smarta* remark and goes in the back to get the other owner (I assume her Husband) and he comes, trying to be understanding, and I explain that I have had legal documentation I've been waiting for from my attorney and that I've been being lied to each time I came in to get my mail. I had to ASK to even view what was in the bag so I could make phone calls!

A credit card I was waiting for (which I assumed I wasn't receiving because I was told there was no mail for me!) were sitting in the pile in the bag. Actually, the 2 replacements I had to call for because the store was hiding my mail.

My legal docs were there as well. I told him he could send back the rest of it but I needed these two pieces of mail.

GET THIS: He then tells he can't let me take my mail it wasn't my mail - it's their mail! I said, "Is that legal according the USPS rules on the mail of private citizens? (I'm a former Legal Asst. So I wasn't talking out of my a*!). He responded with, "I don't know." Great answer!

He then orders the b*tch to DISCOUNT my account 50% - SILLY ME - I thought they were working with me here... NOPE...

I tell him that I HAVE to take my legal docs and he then tells me that if I do, he'll have to call the POLICE!

So I say, "Oh really? What are the police going to do?"

He says, "I don't know. They'll probably take the mail."

I was so fed up with their stupidity & rather than argue and get in trouble for being a lowly customer - I threw MY/THEIR mail back at him and told them they were f*ing a*holes in front of their standing customers and walked out.

I offered to pay in full - never asked for a discount or expected special treatment. This is what I got for it.

So now, they aren't getting a dime, and my account is going to reflect a 100% discount.

I'm filing formal complaints tomorrow.
