The need for a credit card is normal for online business such as auction sites and authorization is made with clear and precise verification of doing so is usually done instructions or a prompt.
The problem begins with where they stated there is a $99 membership fee for 165 bids. But nowwhere on the same page I put my card info does it say that is what I am doing. The amount is on the page where you enter credit card info.
