Simple - Furniture delivery

I recently bought four pieces of furniture, two couches and two loveseats totaling about $2,000. The furniture representative who took my order, who I have worked with before, knew I would want the furniture delivered to two different addresses.

When it came time to deliver them, I called the 800-number for delivery asked that three pieces be delivered to one address and the fourth piece to a second address.

I was told by the customer service rep at the 800-number that since the one piece was on the order with the others there was no way I could have one piece delivered elsewhere. When I said I was willing to pay two delivery charges, I was told there was no way I could split the order, those are just the rules.

I called the store furniture representative and it appears he's having trouble getting by the "rules".

It seems like a simple solution in making certain the customer gets what he wants, especially if I took the time to spend what I consider a lot of money at JC Penney. At a time when retailers aren't exactly making a lot money, if any, it seems like a simple solution to make the deliveries.

My other option was to cancel the order. However, I was told since it was a special order I would be billed. Seems they have me over a barrel.

This is the kind of inflexibility that I have found at JC Penney in the past. When they send the $10 coupons in the mail there are always exceptions in using them. When they have the store coupons that give you $10 off a $50 purchase or $15 off a $75 purchase, read the fine print closely. Seems like there's always exceptions that keep you from using the coupons on many items in the store.

Shop at Kohl's and you can use 15-30 percent coupons on anything in the store, no questions asked.

I like Penney's, however they have so many rules and regulations posed on shoppers that it's not fun to shop there anymore. I spend more money at Kohl's and Target these days. They are very willing to help customers by going the extra mile.
