We signed a 3 year contract for security services for our home in Aug. 2007. We have had constant problems with the equipment and service. Fire alarms go off in the middle of the night when there is no fire. Sometimes they call to check when an alarm goes off - sometimes not. Every time they need to come and check the equipment that we call in about problems we get charged for a service call.
We tried to cancel our contract last year due to the poor service but were told we would have to pay for the full 3 years. We decided to keep the service but would definitely cancel at the end of the 3 years. We recieved a bill on 9/27/10 for service for 2011. I called on 9/28/10 to cancel and was informed that our service was automatically renewed. We had to give written notice 30 days prior to the renewal date which would have been back in July. I looked at our original contract and sure enough it was buried in the fine print. GOTCHA! They said they mailed us a reminder back in May but I know I didn't receive it. So we are stuck in this wonderful contract for another year.
Lousy, lousy, lousy service! They must make the majority of their money by locking people into these contracts. This is the first service company I have seen that automatically renews after the original contract expires. Cable TV, cell phones, etc. Don't handle business this way.
