This had to be the worst 3 months of my life.
I was interviewed by the then manager, then by the owner Kaye Stanley. I really thought that this was going to be a job where I could make a great deal of money working with nice people.
The first day I started, I was given a recruiting manual. Most of the information was badly photocopied and was dated about six years before. The right way to make a phone call, the wrong way to make a phone call. How to call a client, how to follow up with a client.
The other recruiters were friendly enough and tried to make me feel welcome, and particularly Kimberley. However, all the accounts that were giving Paces work were already working with a recruiter. I had to pick up the phone and find my own clients. I didn't have a problem with this, but it was not what was told to me in the interview. I was told very clearly by Kaye that I would be making placements right away with several openings that clients would be giving us. She made the job sound very compelling, but the reality was it wasn't like that at all.
Kaye was very difficult to work for. When we lost a placement the first week I was there, and the recruiters were literally running for cover. She was very emotional and bad tempered. The other recruiters told her what she wanted to hear to placate her, but they preferred it when she was out of the office.
I didn't stay long enough to get to know the staff, but I know that staff leave there every few months, which alarmed me.
