DIRECTV had a promotion on TV just prior to Christmas 2009 (and I also received offer in the mail) that offered a fixed price contract for one year and a $100 VISA gift card after 60 days of service provided I signed up for the CHOICE or higher programming package and agreed to autopay at time of purchase (and maintain it for 60 days).
After waiting nearly six months I e-mailed the customercare foks and asked about my gift card. The response in an e-mail stated that I did qualify for the gift card, and if I had not received the card in a reasonable time I should call for further assistance.
When I followed up by phone I was told by another rep that I didn't qualify because the person I talked to on the phone at the time of purchase did not formally offer me the gift card promotion.
I explained that I had the flyer with the promtion in my hand and it gave the qualifications (and prices per month) that must be met for the $100 gift card and I met all the requirements (also told them about the e-mail from their customercare that agreed with me). Their response was the e-mail was wrong and I won't receive the $100 gift card. The person said he was the final authority for the decision and only the President could say otherwise.
Bottom line is beware of such tactics that leave you with less than you expect and do not do business with these kinds of folks.
