In the fine print of the contract I signed, I was obligated to cancel at least one month before my annual contract was due to renew. Of course, they send the invoice for the next billing period after the renewal date. They do this intentionally so I can not use the renewal invoice as a reminder to cancel.
Home Security contracted with The Alarm Center in Media, PA as their collection agent. The Alarm Center harrassed me with phone calls, both automated and in person to try and collect my annual renewal. They even threatened me with turning it over to a collection agency.
I tried to negotiate a partial payment with the Alarm Center and Yvonne Reinhold at Home Security in Minneapolis. Neither would come to terms with me. I finally paid the $269, only to stop the harrassment, and I will never do business with either Home Security or The Alarm Center again.
My advice: Read the fine print, and put a reminder in you calendar so you can decide whether to cancel or no. Also, stay away from Home Security, Yvonne Reinhold, and The Alarm Center.
