I called to place a stop payment on a transaction that normally was taken from my checking. The stop payment charge was $32.00. A few days later I noticed that the payment I made a stop payment on went through. After going the branch I was told a claim would have to be filed which I did the bank advised me to wait another two days after the two days I returned to the bank and was told that my claim was denied, because the stop payment was made on a debit transaction. At no time when I originally placed the stop payment did the representative ask me if this was a debit transaction, I will mention that the representative had a full view of my account and would be able to see that this was a debit transaction.
I was not aware that the stop payment would not apply to this. Why would I pay $32.00 for something that would not prevent the merchant from taking the money out of my account. Now because of this transaction my checking account was overdrawn. The bank paid the merchant and I had to pay the bank $209.00 because my account was overdrawn. They did reverse the fees, but it cost me $209.00 plus the $349.96 for something I did not want taken out of my account. I believe that Chase Bank should have reimbursed me for the $349.96 and fought with the merchant for the return of the money. Needless to say I had no choice but to pay the overdraft monies and have since closed my savings and checking account with this horrible bank.
