Ripoff Why the hell buy insurance when they deny any claim hidden charges too

This report is to document 2 instances where I believe UPS has failed to deliver any responsible solution for a mistake. Issue 1: I sold a power amplifier (75 lbs) on ebay to a person in Wisconsin. I packed it in a box specifically designed for heavy electronics (extra thick and packed liberally with bubble wrap to protect everything.), placed fragile tags all over it and had it insured for 1000.00. When the amp was received, the right channel was not working, and the chassis had 2 dents on it and scratches everywhere. Of course the person no longer wanted it, so I contacted UPS to go pick it up, and filed a damage claim.

The claim was denied because the unit was not "packed adequately for its weight". I have shipped numerous packages with ups with far less packing and had no problems. And when you call a 1-800 number all they do is give you another number or tell you there is nothing else they can do about it.

The other issue is when I shipped out a pre-amp to Canada. When I dropped the item off to the customer service center, they asked me what it was and why I was shipping it to Canada. I told them I sold it on Ebay. They gave me a price of 30.00. Fine I said, and left with my receipt. 7 Days later my buyer calls me pissed because UPS will not release the item to him until he gives them 150.00Cd for a "brokerage fee". This term was never mentioned to me by the drop off location, so I called the international shipping 800 number. The woman told me they could not do anything about it, it was the Canadian govt that charged this.

Come to find out UPS is one of the only companies that charges this. I asked "what if the person refuses and it comes back to me?" "Well, then you have to pay it because it is already in Canada." I have never heard of anything so ridiculous. They hold it hostage figuring someone will pay for it. I ended up spliting it with the buyer, But there is no excuse for not telling you upfront of the fees they are going to charge you. If I would have known, I would have never shipped it out. I would rather walk a package from Houston to Baghdad than ship it out UPS.

They make up their own rules, treat your packages like soccer balls, then make up reasons to not cover damage to merchandise.
