Please be warned before using your debit card with magicjack! Today I tried to renew my MagicJack subscription and ended up with six charges to my debit card. MagicJack chat support spent over 60 minutes instructing me on how to use the website to renew my MagicJack subscription (phone number). Each time I attempted to renew my MagicJack telephone number I received a "Kill Order" notification from their web interface. Finally the chat representative checked with someone else and told me that I had an outstanding "trial" balance of $46 dollars and I had to pay that first. After considerable trouble they directed me to a page that said "Balance Due - $46". After several more minutes of asking them what the bill was for they said it was for a "MagicJack Trial" that occurred in October. I told the MagicJack chat operator that I didn't recognize the phone number and didn't remember receiving a MagicJack that wasn't paid for as I'd purchased them at Radio Shack. I presently have (4) MagicJack units that need to be renewed but even after they authorized my two debit cards for $150 and reducing my balances on those cards for 15-30 or more days, they still refused to renew any of the units. I reminded them that I did not recognize the number, didn't remember that transaction and couldn't have returned it because I wasn't familiar with the transaction.
The end result is that my two debit cards are now short nearly $150 after magicjack ripped me off. Magicjack ripped me off by authorizing my debit cards six times without notifying me of any balance or past due bills.
Under no circumstances give magicjack your debit card number over the internet. Magicjack does not have a live phone line either so you cannot call them and renew over the phone.
Because of this rip-off of my debit card as well as magicjack's refusal to honor a renewal of any of the four magicjack usb phone devices that i own i strongly suggest to anyone considering magicjack that they take a look at skype before they give any money to magicjack.
Magicjack is a complete ripoff! Do not, under any circumstances buy or renew a magicjack over the internet as you may likely incur multiple charges to your debit card and be forced to wait 15-30 days or longer for a refund.
The debit card companies are guilty also because any pre-authorization or charge does not have to be refunded for 30 days even if they money never reached the vendor. They can float your money for up to thirty days or longer if they wish.
I had a similar ripoff occur with my debit cards when i had multiple charges on my debit card from templatemonster. Eventually i had to fax them my driver's license and social security card for them to release my product and it took nearly two weeks to receive the $320 dollars worth of "pre-authorized" funds to be returned to my credit card.
Simply put, the banks, credit card companies and merchants are out to hose you.
