Readers Express called me on home phone to get me to participate in membership. I refused a number of times. They wouldn't take no for an answer. They baited me with a a $50.00 store coupon. Said I could cancel

I was shopping on line, Garnet Hill, and after completing purchase. Pop-up and woman's voice came up thanking me for shopping at site and inviting me to choose up to two free gifts. I did this and items were free but i had to put in my credit card # for the shipping and handling. A week or so later I get a call from a telemarketer selling magazines! They are persistant even though I kept telling them I wasn't interested. Teh woman I spoke to kept pushing a $50.00 coupon for any store I chose. If I didn't want the membership i could cancel in thirty days. Just to get of the phone I agreed and the only information I gave them was may address, Idid not give them my credit card info. Yet I was chared 4.96 2/1. I recieved a letter with a list of 6 magazines I did not choose and an extensive list of mags I could change to if I chose. Letter was dated 2/04. Letter states that my membership started 2/15. They membership was to be for two years or 24 mos and the total cost for mags was $1,204.00. I figured out what the total would be subing directly with the magazine publisher and it was $143.47! I called them back March 13. I had missed my 30 day period according to them and if I cancelled now I would have to pay them the $1,204.00. I told them I felt I had been coerced into this contract with them and miss led as far as when to cancel and what date. There is a "cancellation policy on the back of the letter that states that if a custome becomes dissatisfied, wishes to cancel or change their mags, etc. They (customer) can contact their off for immediate resolution. The best I culd do was to get the monthly fee reduced from 49.96/mo to 10.00/mo. Even after arguing that I had not given them my credit card # and that I'm on a fixed income. I cancelled my credit card and filed a fraud report with my bank who did not find any "error" so only one payment of 49.96 wa refunded to my account. I feel that I was taken advantage of starting with how my home address and credit card information was procured originally from the internet. They have used the name Readers Express and called me at home stating I had a 5 year contract with them, and attempted to credit card info from me asking what the first 4 numbers were of my card. There is something obvioulsy not right about this company and it's alias' and the invitation for the free gift is how they initial get your card number, name and address.
