I did an online transaction through paypal, selecting my debit card as the payment source. Transaction seemingly goes through, the company got paid, I think all is well.
A few days later, my savings account is overdrawn - come to find out, paypal took the funds from my attached bank account (my savings) instead of from my debit card as they had been instructed.
I call paypal, and the woman on the phone takes over 15 minutes to find that allegedly my bank (who I have been with for many many years) declined my debit transaction and that is why they took it from my savings account.
I contacted my bank and not only did paypal not even attempt a charge on my debit card (because it would have easily cleared, funds were available), but they had charged my savings account AGAIN. Worse yet, the woman at the bank tells me the only way for me to prevent paypal from charging me is to close my savings account!
I then re-contact paypal, and the new woman on the phone flatly denies that they even tried charging my debit card and that they only withdrew it from my savings! Mind you, this is less than 20 minutes after hanging up with her co-worker (who admitted thier wrongdoing) and talking with my bank over the phone.
Esentially, do NOT attach any bank account to paypal. Thier system will withdraw from whatever they see fit. I will never again use thier service, I don't care what lengths I have to go through to prevent it. It has already cost me $70 I cannot get back (my bank does not refund nsf fees on savings accounts). One glitch on paypal's end, and they are not the ones that are forced to pay, the customer is.
What kind of world is it where the customer gets shafted for your screw up?
