Non-Sellable goods - Hollister cloting store

I recently took my daughter shopping at the Hollister in the Hamilton Mall (Mays Landing, NJ). She found a dress she liked and wanted to purchase. I was told by the cashier that they did not have the size my daughter needed. I spotted the same dress on a mannequin and asked it they could check its size. I was told by the cashier (very robotically) "it belonged to the merchandising team and could not be sold". My daughter decided to settle for a smaller size from the rack. We were then told at the register when they attempted to ring it up that they could not sell it to us because the tag had staples which made it unsellable. I replied that I didn't understand. The cashier responded that the dress was on the rack as a display. The fact that the tag had staples meant that it, also, belonged to the merchanising team. I replied "you must be kidding me". How is a customer supposed to know this. She said I should have noticed that the tag didn't have a price on it. We wasted close to an hour of our time and couldn't buy anything because it belonged to the merchandising team. We were quite disappointed. We left. We were able to purchase a dress from a competitor that is in the business to sell clothes not just display the belongings of their merchandising team... I left with a much better experience. Also, if you want your staff to tell customers about your sales, you need to lower the music so they can hear and understand. Ouch!
