I really enjoy shopping at Dollar General stores. I have been a patron for many years because there is always one close by, they open early, and they have unbeatable prices on some products. I was even an Assistant Manager for a store in MO for about a year.
But...
After moving, I began to shop at DG on Carlyle Ave.in Belleville, IL. After frequenting that DG for months I have decided to stop shopping there and switch to another store. The employees at this store are just plain rude. The first few times I shrugged it off. Maybe it was just a stressful day, it happens. But I noticed the cashiers were pretty rude with just about everyone.
There was one in particular that was really nasty to everyone. I don't recall her name, but she was a heavy-set, younger girl with brown hair. She just had that attitude like you were pissing her off by making a purchase. She literally had a scowl plastered to her face and was very snotty. IE: I picked up shoelaces off clearance. They rang up as $1 and they should've been $. 50. I pointed it out and she slammed her finger down on a register key and the remainder came off. But the look she had just struck a nerve with me. EVERY single time I shopped, she was there, acting like a b*tch. I went there for convenience and just dealt with the rudeness, but she irked me and I snapped on her. I told her I was sorry she couldn't have a better job, and I'm sorry she is unattractive and has to be a b*tch to everyone because of it. Then I asked her how it felt when I was a b*tch to her. She just scowled harder at me and flung my receipt on the counter. I cussed her a little bit more as I left, but nothing too vulgar or loud. I couldn't help it. It was mean, but I think someone had to take her down a peg.
Anyway, so I called the store when I got home to make a complaint. The female manager was like "okay?" when I said I had a problem, as if they have never had a pissy customer call-in before. I told her the who and what, and she tells me, "yeah, we've had a lot of complaints about her. I'm sorry." She didn't mention anything about rectifying the issue, just kinda said thanks, whatever, that's too bad. Same attitude - the "oh my God, what now?! I hate working& at work." Whaah.
Saw that I wasn't getting anywhere with her, so I asked for a number to contact her district mgr. She told me she was not allowed to furnish me with that info and told me to "go complain on our website". So I did. I never even got an email confirming that my complaint had been received. I resent, again, nothing. I suppose I'll have to look it up, although I'm done shopping there. Worthless a* company.
I wouldn't recommend this store, unless you just like being treated like a burden for being a customer. Or if you like to interact with workers that look like felons with their nasty neck tattoos and such.
