Don't Count on Best Buy's TV Pick up for Recycle

Horrible TV delivery experience:

My daughter bought a 46 inch Sony LCD from Bridgewater, NJ Best Buy. She had a 32 inch regular Sony TV she was replacing. I was taking the delivery for her since she was out of town.

She bought the TV from Best Buy because they promised to recycle her old TV. She did not want the TV ending up in junk yard. She was adamant about recycling.

Best Buy sale included delivery & set up of new TV and and pick up of old TV.

To give you a good picture of how horrible Best Buy delivery was I have to describe the ease of location where the delivery was to be made. Entrance to the town house is in the living room where the TV was and it is ground floor. So the delivery and pick up situation could not have been any easier.

The first thing as the delivery men said, as they came in and looked at the TV, was that they cannot take that TV, that is too big. They said they only pick up upto 27 inch TV.

I said look at your pick up instructions. They had instructions to pick up 32 inch TV. Their response was that I did not read the fine print that says that they dont pick up larger than 27.

Their response was annoying me when they clearly had 32 inch TV pick up in their paper work that Best Buy prepared. They did not care.

The TV was sitting on TV stand, 15 feet from the exit door, there being nothing between the TV and the exit. I had disconnected all the cables before they came in.

At that point, I asked if they can help me put the old TV in my SUV for me to get rid of it later and they can set up the new TV on the TV table where the old one is now..

They refused and said that their company policy is to not touch that size TV while it was still in the house. They in fact offered to take the TV if I can place it outside the door.

The TV was too heavy for me to lift it alone. I asked that OK just help me take it down from the table to the floor, then I can push it out the door and then they can take it.

They refused. Even a stranger will not refuse such a request from another human being.

Then I said OK, forget about taking the old TV, just set up the new TV on the TV table. They refused again saying the table has to be empty for them to place the new TV on the table.

This was now really getting to me. What kind of delivery and set up service is Best Buy promising to the customer.

If it was a curbside delivery I would not have all this problem because then I would know what to expect. It was a home delivery, set up and removal of old TV and the paper work so showed.

At that point I was annoyed enough that I ended up knocking the old TV off the table on to the floor and then rolled it edge over edge a few times so I can dump it outside the door so they can take it. They did take it once it dropped outside the door.

In the process I scratched my wood TV table since they refused to give me a hand. Then they wanted to take a picture of the scratched table to protect themselves that I would not blame them for the scratches. I told them that if they cannot touch my old TV while it is in my house, they cannot take any picture of the inside of the house either.

Do Best Buy employees not use any common sense? I was wondering is it their policies that are turning them inhumane or was my experience an aberration. But I did not get any support from the store management when I called to complain to them during the delivery. They said that whether the pick up will be made or not is at the discretion of delivery men.

This was never explained to my daughter when she bought the TV not even a hint that the old TV may not be picked up. If that were the case she would not have bought it from Best Buy.

Bottom line, be careful of what the Best Buy salesman promises, because their delivery men run their own show with impunity.
