Bliss Nail Salon
Queens Nail Salon

To start off, I'd like to mention how loyal my aunt has been to this nail salon for quite the years. Meticulous as she is, her gratuity is as much as her high standards in a job well done. She gave me a gift certificate for my birthday to get a mani and pedi here; mind you, I had already gone a couple of times to this salon with her. A month passed and I decided to treat myself on that day without her (July 11th/09/Saturday). When I dropped in they seemed surprised my aunt wasn't with me and I explained to them I had a certificate that she gave me.

From the moment I sat down I could sense the animosity, however, service to me isn't a big deal as long as they get the job done, which is indeed a good one - I'll give them that much. But that day the woman working on me, if she ever spoke to me was to be arrogant enough to tell me I couldn't drink anything inside (a summer day and I have no right to drink anything?), or to impatiently instruct the basics which I was too dazed off to react to on my own (ex. Soak feet after she's scrubbed, hand over the nail polish I picked, etc); it was all huffs and puffs with her. At that point me being me, I didn't bother arguing but knew my tip would'nt even be close to what my aunt always leaves.

When it was time for my mani she asked for the certificate first so I wouldn't ruin my nails later on. I took out $4.00 for tip but left it right above my purse. I was going to give it to who seems is the manager but also suggest to her that the workers needed to learn how to work for their tip better. All was done so I said my bye's and when I approached the "manager" to say what I needed to say, she had the AUDACITY to abrubtly say, and I quote: " Umm, you know tip is not included in that certificate you gave us. You still haven't given the girl a tip." Absolutely baffled, I proceeded to ask her where in that salon was there a sign that said gratuity is a MUST?

I pretty much blew up just as much as she did, yelling back and forth. She told me that if I wasn't planning to leave a tip then I should do my nails myself at home! I said: " This what she did is her JOB, on the other hand, you should look up what gratuity and service means before even thinking about demanding tip". I told her to call the police if it was such a big deal and she said: "No, no police" so I told her the reason she wouldn't call them is because what she was arguing wasn't legal and for that reason I should call them, threw one dollar on the table out of spite and stormed off.

It took me this long to report this because I first wanted to make sure my aunt was clear on what had happened. Thanks in advance, and although there might not be much to do with this case, at least there could be a word out there about workers who only treat you right if you're waving around bills without demanding CUSTOMER SERVICE first.
