Just because ATT guarantees a low price, apparently doesn't mean Directv must adhere Nashville

I signed up for Directv through an ATT bundle. I was promised the lowest price, and dealt with the friendliest ATT representative I've ever talked to. We spoke for almost an hour, and she set me up with great phone, internet and Directv to include FREE HD, Free DVR box and service for a year, and soothed my many fears developed from years of being told DSL < Cable, telling me how Directv would offer me several movie channels, that "On Demand" was easy to use and completely free - there was virtually NOTHING cable gave me they wouldn't, and for significantly less money.

So, I signed up. Although a bit put off that the earliest my Directv would be installed was 2 weeks later, I sucked it up.

Today the Directv installer comes. He was nice enough, but just came in and out of my house, without showing me an order or contract, so of course, I assumed all was well. Well, he went to install the DVR box I was promised, and I come to find out it's just an HD box - NOT a DVR. I asked him what i should do, and he insisted all I could do was call AT&T since I ordered through them. They said now that he was there, all they could do was forward me to directv, so I got sent to THEIR operator.

In the midst of this, the installer told me (while I'm on the phone trying to work this out), "I HAVE to go. You need to sign these". I told Directv I'd call them back and told him I would sign a paper saying he came out and installed the dish, but not that I got the equipment and service I was promised. He told me to write it into the paperwork and sign, so I did. I then called headquarters back and was not given an apology and ship date for a DVR box that I expected.instead, I was given a list of why I was the one in the wrong, why THEY didn't have to do anything, and now here's the kicker - I would be sent a DVR box, but only if I paid their CRAZY $300 delivery and installation fee. WHAT?!?!?! I'd never heard anything more ludicrous and they told me the best they could do is credit my account for part of it. Oh - and that great HD service I was promised for free? An additional $10 a month... And the On Demand? Yeah - that actually IS free - AFTER you pay for the $79 tax and shipping wireless "connector" kit. All this and the earliest they would even GET me my DVR is 3 weeks from today.

I told the woman I wanted to cancel my service, and she was going through the obligatory ropes of "I need to mark that I offered to comp your DVR box and you refused. Is that correct?" "NO, " I yelled, "It's not correct - You offered to CREDIT my ACCOUNT for some of the money I PAID for the DVR. It's not as if you're just sending it to me, which you should be"."Well, I have to put that down, " she said. I told her I wouldn't give her my "go-ahead" in acknowledging they "did all they could" but she told me "Well, I'm going to mark it".

SO, now I'm stuck with an ugly satellite dish on my house, a whole bunch of installation fees and NO tv. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
