In an effort to save money on bills, my wife decided to switch us from Time Warner cable to Verizon's 3-in-1 bundled service. The main selling point was that we had thirty days to cancel the service. The Verizon sales person reiterated this fact to us because we expressed that we wanted to get FIOS as soon as it was available in our area. We did acknowledge there would be a one year contract with Verizon if we decided to keep the service.
What was not disclosed by the Verizon sales person, was the fact that DirecTv had a 2 year contract and you only had 24 hours to cancel with them.
To make a long story short, Verizon sold a service that they were unable to deliver. They promised a DSL speed of 3MB, and I couldn't even get 1mb. They sent a field tech who told us we were too far from Verizon's signal and would never get over 1mb of speed.
We immediately called Verizon to cancel the service and that is the first time we found out we would have to call DirecTv to cancel.
When we called DirecTV they said we had a 2 year contract and I told them we never signed a contract with them and that we signed up with Verizon. That's when they said that we in-fact did sign a contract which they call a "work order form" which is a piece of paper given to you at the end of the installation from a subcontractor who does not work for DirecTv nor does he advise you you are about to sign a contract.
So it is Verizon's false advertising that got me in this mess, but DirecTv now had the opportunity to rectify the issue. They have chosen not to, and since they didn't have any account information for us, they instead reported a negative mark on my wifes credit. I will now be taking DirecTv to small claims court, but I will also earn every one of that $400.00 by taking up the precious time of their highly paid corporate employees. I invite you to do the same, and please let them know it was me who sent you there.
