Intrusive id practice, they insist they must swipe magnetic strip on state licence for proof of age

Hy-vee would not let me purchase beer without scanning the magnetic strip on the back of my licence. I have a valid drivers licence clearly stating dob (I'm 55). I do not know what info the state puts on there but I feel Hy-Vee has no right to it. They offered no privacy policy...
