I ordered an item on Amazon.com and at the same time I ordered a "replacement plan" for an additional 2 years of coverage for repair/replacement. I placed the order on May 1 and ended up canceling the order with Amazon on May 2.
I had to cancel the replacement plan through N.E.W. Customer Service Companies, Inc. And I wrote an email request to cancel and before sending it I called their 800 number (as directed) and spoke to a representative. I stated that the order shows that it has not yet shipped and since I am no longer buying the item that needs coverage, I wished to cancel the replacement plan before it ships on May 4 or 5.
I was told that I have to email the request and then they will process my refund which should take about 8 weeks! I stated that they have not yet shipped my order and questioned why that it is necessary to hold my refund for 8 weeks and I was told this was how they handled things.
I think that it is extremely dishonest for them to hold my funds for 8 weeks on something that they still have in their hands unless they plan to pay me interest for the use of my money for those 2 months. Perhaps this is legal but it is not ethical and it causes me to question whether their replacement service will be handled in an equally unethical manner.
I think that Amazon should rethink allowing sellers that act as representatives of them to treat their customers in this fashion. This has caused a severe breach of trust in my future dealings with Amazon as well as this shady company.
