Rude rip off

On my family's first day of moving to a new home in Alabama, Mediacom arrived to shut off cable from the last occupant's bill. We had the man go ahead and install our internet and cable, but no furniture was in our home yet so we had to set up to all TV's and PC's ourselves afterwards. The cable TV box was terrible and kept going out. The man had given us specific instructions on which number to call for customer service as he said it is hard to get through and would give you the run around. I followed his advice and customer service just kept resetting our box. Finally a week later the cable quit working all together and when I called customer service they said to unplug from TV and just watch without the box until they could deliver a new one in a few days. The man came and did not install a new box but used the same one and said they were just having technical difficulties. We took the box out that afternoon and drove it 1/2 hour away to the nearest station to try and get a new one and the receptionist said they were out and come back later. I said forget it and we just installed the same one again and endured the black out periods.

A week later the box went completely out again and I called customer service and explained everything and asked for a new box with DVR. I was told there would be a deposit required and credit card number held along with a credit check to have a DVR box. I told her to just forget it and please all we want is a new regular box so I don't have to keep calling weekly. She informed me I was being rude to her so I hung up and called another operator. I informed the new operator of my situation and please just get us a new box so we can have the cable we are paying for. She told me there would be a charge of $39.99 for a new box and when I questioned her she stated she does not make the rules. I told her I needed to talk to somone that does make the rules and was told I was going to be transfered to a supervisor, "but they dont make the rules either", and was then put on hold for over 5 minutes.

I called back a third time and explained my situation and the yet another new customer service rep and she understood everything and couldn't apologize enough. We now are suposed to have a NEW FREE box delivered in a few days. Not the best, but better than nothing. I have never had to fight and argue my way through a company as I have had to do with MediaCom customer service.
