I moved to the Spanish Fort area three weeks ago. After a mediacom guy came by and hooked up Internet/Cable. The Internet did not work so I called Mediacom and they said we "did not have an account in the system". After about 4 hours total on the phone over a 3 day span I finally got the Internet working. Next I asked for a new box and High Def/DVR, so Mediacom brought one out. Of course the box only worked for a day or two (DVR was not on either) so I called them back... Again. They said they would bring out another box... in one week (the earliest time a guy could come out).
TIP #1:
Don't waste your time with Mediacom.
TIP #2:
If you do call them and get a ignorant customer support representative, just keep hanging up and calling back until you get someone halfway intelligent, it will pay off in the long run.
