Vonage failed to give me right info regarding services, and never transfered my phone numbe

On Jan. 17th in the evening, a lady from Vonage called me and offered me their phone services. She promised 2 free months and told me I could cancel anytime and she would give me a refund, and that I had nothing to lose. I told her I was willing to try their services but only if I could keep the same phone number and if having their service did not alter my internet connection, or my routers at home.

She told me I would not have any problems with them and that I could cancel if it did not work for me. She also assured me that I would keep the same phone #, so I accepted her offer. She transferred me to me to someone so we could transfer the phone # to them. I talked to a male rep, and authorized the transfer of my phone #. About 6 days later, I received their device and plugged it, but I did not work.

A few days later I call them so they could direct me to plugging it. They helped me to get connected, but I noticed that my phone was not ringing for a couple of days. Some people at work told me they had tried to call me, but I did not answered. I then, called myself at home from work and from my cell and the answering machine would not pick up.

I came home and called Vonage to complain, and they said that they were supposed to give me a different phone number. This was the first time I was told that. The lady that called me on the 17th, NEVER TOLD ME THAT. She told me that I would keep the same phone number. The person helping me with the connection did not tell me either. They both fail to give me accurate information about how to successfully use their services.

So, that was when I learned that I had to have a different phone #, and give it to my friends and relatives so they could call me. I told the guy I was not happy to learn this at that point, and asked him to cancel my service. The rep who called me either lied to me or she did not know how Vonage works. She assured me I would keep my old phone number.

I told him I was going to disconnect their phone, and to cancel. He said he needed to transfer me, which he did, then the other person told me she needed to transfer me again. Then I got disconnected. Also I was not happy with their service, because I was getting disconnected from the internet every time I tried to make a phone call.

My children were not happy with that as they had the Wii and Xbox connected o the internet through the router. So I called Vonage several times to cancel, and they would keep transferring me to another person and I was disconnected. One day I called to cancel And they said they wera having technical issues and tld me to call back.in addition the people that can cancel your account do not work on weekends. One day I called, and their system was down and they could not do cancel. As far as I know, they never transferred my phone #either. I have been using the same provider I've had for the last year.

On Monday Feb. 16, around 2 P.M., I was finally able to speak to a lady after speaking with three reps - that finally was able to cancel my account. But, she said that I had to paid them $130. When I told her that I was told I could cancel anytime, and I would get a refund. Then she told me that I had 30 days. I told her that I tried to call them yesterday, but yesterday was Sunday. And their team doesn't work on weekends. VERY convenient for them!

I also told her that I had called several times to cancel but never could, because they would hang up on me. I also told her that they fail to tell me I had to obtain a different phone number and that was why I was not receiving calls. They also fail to transfer my phone #. So I did not use their services for more than 4 days I disconnected the phone when I realized I was not getting phone calls. Going back to 30 days, I told her that I was within the 30 days, because they had called me on Jan. 17 in the evening.

I called her about 2 pm so we are still within 30 days. If I would have called in the evening, then we could say that the 30 days are over. Also, how can you count the 17th as one day, if she called me in the evening? Moreover, I did not start using their services until about the 27 of January, and only for about 4 days. She told me to send a letter to the corporate office and sent me a fax to dispute the charges. If I receive a bill I will send this to them. I hope they are reasonable and don't charge me anything, because they fail to provide me accurate information about their services. They never transferred my phone number.

My advice: not worth the hassle to deal with Vonage, and after reading a few complaints on the internet out of the almost 700 -only on the www.ripoffrepot.com and, I would advise anyone to be very careful with Vonage services and really make sure it works for them before transferring their phones. It is very easy to get their services but not very easy to cancel especially if you have used their services and if they had transferred your phone number. If you are going to cancel, don't count on Saturdays and Sundays. You may have only 28 days if Saturday and Sunday are your last two days of the trial period.
