Mistreated and ripped off -large discontinue charge and turned in to collection

I have been a user of Verizon Wireless for approximately 1 years. I was told when I purchased the phone that my contract was for one year. (I never sign up for anything for more than one year!)

Recently, I had had it with the extra charges that always seemed to appear on my bill over and above the price quoted me. Last month I called to discontinue my service, only to be told that I would be charged $175.00 for quitting them. I disputed this extra charge. When I got my bill I paid a partial payment hoping to get somewhere with Verizon on the large fee.

I received a new bill thanking me for my partial payment and giving me a new final bill balance with a late charge (perfectly reasonable.) Today I received a call from a collection agency telling me my credit rating was in jeopardy and advising me that my bill was now 40.00 higher because of their fees. I called Verizon up immediately and of course got nowhere except with a RUDE accounts agent.

This is to my utter disgust with an unethical company who I feel should be written up for. I received no notice on my bill that, not only advised me that a partial payment was not accepted, but no mention that I was going to be sent to collection. I dont know very many companies that do not, if not in writing, call the client to tell them they have 10,15, 30 days to respond OR they will be turned over to a collection agency.

How unethical. Especially when an amount was under dispute well as far as I was concerned it was under dispute apparently, Verizon had no intention of talking with me or working with me on this $175.00 charge. Not only that, when I asked about my first contact with them, they didnt even keep a record of my phone call. Wouldnt you think that if a customer is disputing a charge on their bill that their agent would at the very least make a record of it? Shame on Verizon for many reasons, but the very least is the unethical way they treat their customers.
