Unauthorized Charges, Deceptive Sales

I purchased a book from discountbooksale.com for $7.96 on 2/08/09 and received an e-mail receipt for $7.96.

I then discovered that my American Express card was charged three times ($1.00, $7.96, and $29.95) on three different days (2/08,2/09, and 2/15, respectively). I called them on 2/17 (866-707-5858 / 866-566-8437 / 800-511-3538) and asked to reverse the unauthorized charges. I was told that the charges were for a membership and processing fee. This is despite the fact that I specifically declined the membership while purchasing the book. They refused to refund the charges saying that I should have called earlier.

I have filed a dispute through American Express.
