I am a former employee of Hollywood Video in Silver Spring, Md. I was hired in November. When I was hired I was told that I'll be at the Silver Spring location after my training was completed in the Wheaton, Md store which is about 3 miles from my house. I thought it would make more sense to train in Silver Spring because it's across the street from my house. Everything went well during my training, but I was a little uncomfortable with the closing process. When the time came to tranfer to the Silver Spring, Md location I knew that I was hardly ready as far as the closing procedures, but I looked at it as a challenge and knew that I would over come it. My title was "Shift Director." I was to assist the store manager. Atleast that's what the general manager said on my first day at the Silver Spring store. So, the second week at the new location I noticed that I was only working part time and I was under the impression that I was going to be working full time. I mean as a asst. Manager you have to be there as much as a store manager.
Well, my second night to close I had to count all the drawers and the house fund. Everything was straight. When it was time to complete the bank deposit I counted over $1300 six times just to be sure it was accurate. The next day I reported in for a four hour shift which was from 12pm to 4pm. 40 minutes into my shift the manager said that she was about to go do the bank deposit and she'll be right back. When she came back 30 to 40 minutes later from driving to the bank which was atleast 5 minutes away, she said that the bank deposit wasn't accurate. Only $1100 was in the bag, prior to what I wrote on the deposit slip and bag. So I looked and smerked and said "wow, that's deep." She said her and the teller counted it several times. At that point I knew that I was going to be held responsible. I said "make sure you all do a thorough investigation before you all start pointing fingers."
Later on that week I was scheduled to close again, this time with another employee. So, when it was time for him to leave I had to finish closing the store alone. I was scheduled to clock out at 11:30pm and didn't get out until close to 1am. As an employee of Hollywood Video we were giving the privilege to free rentals. I had placed 3 movies to the side so they can be checked out so I can have the joy of watching them later. They have to be scanned out through the register. I already broke them down. So, I took the movies any ways. Later that week when I returned to work I gave them to the store manager and she said that I didn't scan them out and she did an invetory and they werent there, so I apologized and explained to her what happen and she understood. And then she had mentioned that she didn't appreciate me leaving movie returns for the morning shift to put away. I was like "yeah... Sure." And then I bust her out and told her that she left the drop box open and had about 30 returns sitting on top of it without any locks on them and she left the game cabinet unlocked and 2 customers reached inside to purchase some items. She ofcourse had a crazy look on her face while I smiled because I knew I had bust her out.
To make a long story short... I came in on Saturday night to do my 8pm to 11:30pm shift only to find out that she took me off the schedule because I closed later than I was suppose to which was 2 hours. She had put this other employee in my place. I asked him why she do that he replied that "you're fired". He said it with extreme sarcasm. I told him that he has a very sarcastic undertone with his comments and he was like so. Come to find out he didn't like me because I took his position that he thought he was next in line for. I found this out from another employee. He knows the combination too. I figure since he don't like me he took the $200 to set me up. So, on Monday February 2nd 2009 I was terminated because I didn't scan the movies I took out earlier in this paragrah.
