Shift Leade

I began working for Hollywood Video located in Arlington TX off of Matlock and Cooper St. On March 27. My first day I was trained by the manager of the store and was able to learn a lot about the organization and how the store worked, but on the second day we learned that one of the employees have quit suddenly, and now the store was now down to three employees including me.
Because of the shortage of employees I was asked to close the store alone on April 1st, with only a week of training.

I was left with the manager's phone number if I experienced any problems. At the time I did not find anything wrong with this. I felt I had enough knowledge of the store's responsibilities to run the store. After two weeks of working I experienced my first theft. A group of guys came in and stole the case opener, which opens the clear cases they keep movies in. The way they did it was one of the guys asked me to look for the movie The Departed, which I politely left my station and assisted him in finding the movie. Meanwhile his friend stole the case opener.

Keep in mind I was working alone in the store. Hollywood Video in Arlington only has two people working at the same time on Fridays and Saturdays. That night I called my manager and told her about the incident and come to find out the store has no cameras so they were unable to know what the suspects looked like, but fortunately another employee heard my description and had problems with the very suspects before.

A week later three crack heads came into the store on a Friday. They would split up within the store. My colleague and I would ask them if they needed any assistance continually, but still somehow one was able to stuff about $500 hundred dollars worth of movies into his hoodie jacket and walk out the store. Store policy states that we are not allowed to interfere with a theft suspect. The Suspect obviously knew this because He would then carefully place the stolen movie in the back seat of the care and drive away. I called the police and filed a police report.

Then on Monday May 27 I was called into the office by my manager and district manager. They would then sit me down and explain to me that the Human Resources department has recommended that they suspend me due to questionable behavior. The District manager would claim that 2 customers called and stated that I closed the store early. He said that one of the customers even claimed that she knocked on the door and I would not let her in. The district manager would then mention the two theft occurrences I disused in the previous paragraphs.

I never closed the store early, these were all lies. Even though my cash out draw report stated that I closed the store on time, I guess there belief was I just closed the store and just sat there with the lights telling customers that we were closed. Also I would like to say that I am not an idiot. I do have a two year college degree and currently working on my bachelors, so I do at least have some sense. Why would I do that knowing good as well that those very customers could back and inform my manager or call human Resources.

Also remember the store has no cameras, if they did they would have known then I never closed the store early, and made the situation worse the district manager would then inform me that $800 hundred dollars worth of movies where stolen in another location near us. The suspects had a case opener the used to get into the movies. Basically his tone was it was I was in fault.

My belief is there was never 2 customers who called the district. I believe this was a lie. Because there was two major incidents of theft at the store in two weeks they somehow believe I was involved in the thefts with the thefts.
