I Guess the jury is still out! When Cricket first came to the Scottsdale area I thought it would be perfect for my teenager to have her own cell phone. We got a deal where I think the phone was $69.99 & $32.00 a month. My daughter and I had an agreement that part of her allowance would go towards her phone. She faltered a couple of times and I would have to call and re-activate the service. But that the deal RIGHT? That's what Cricket is all about? It is called PRE-PAID! Usually re-activation was not a problem. The best part was since CRICKET was new, you could actually speak to a live person.
I guess times have changed. But I didn't become aware of this until recently. My daughters phone just fell apart about 4 months ago, so she has not had service. This is at not fault to CRICKET as I realize she is a teen, who drops the phone, and after all it is two years old. But since I felt that Cricket has been pertty decent to us that I would give them another try.
A week ago I went to the local dealer "Digital Cellular" in Scottsdale to get my daughter another phone. We had the old phone with us, (which could have been re-activated) but she wanted a new one. The sales girl at Digital Cellular told me about the phone being $99.00 and that their was a hundred dollar rebate. I figured that we would make a dollar on the deal so why not. Then I decided that since our past experience with CRICKET was good that I would purchase 2 phones. The sales girl told me that we would get the rebates on both and proceeded to give us the paper work for both.
So we get home, charge our phones and call in to activate them. First thing the girl (Out of Oaklohoma) tells us she can not activate the phones until an old bill is taken care of personally. Fine no problem, where do I go? She sends me down to a part of Phoenix that believe me was pretty scary. Not to mention the wrong place. From there I called Digital Cellular and told them my problem, they directed me to another activation center an hour away from where we had been sent initially. An hour later we get there. First, let me point out I walked into the Greenway store and a security guard greets us. There were 2 big guys behind the desk I swear ready to take us on. The first thing Andy (Our Salesman) does is looks up the old account, tells me how much it is, and I said fine. Andy then takes the 2 new phones, activates them and then tells me, Oh, you wont get the rebate on one of the phones because I just re-activated your old account!
I told him I was not told that at Digital Cellular or I would have not bought 2 phones. He told me that was not his problem, and that I would have to go back to the store where I bought them and tell them. I did and as I walked in a different young girl about 18 was helping me. I explained that the phones were sold to me with the understanding that I would get the rebates on 2 phones, that the salesgirl new full well that I had service before.
I asked the youg girl if I could speak to the manager, and yes you guessed it, she was the manager! With no intention in taking any responsibility for my situation. The only thing she did do was refer me to her Cricket Area Manager Lisa DeAngelo. She gave me Ms. DeAngelo's phone # and said maybe she can help. I have left Ms. DeAngelo several messages (Of course on her CRICKET phone) but she has never returned my call.
I guess the moral here is at least in my experience, is that when CRICKET was new and wanted OUR business they would bend over backwards to please. But like everything we hear with Corporate Scandles, you've joined the club CRICKET. Congradulations!
