Slammed or company phone service

I work for a small business in Nevada. Shortly after I started here, I received a telephone call from a representative stating that he was calling on behalf of Embarq

He said the reason for his call was to verify the companies phone numbers because Embarq was offering all their Small Businesses a discount of 30% on their current service. I had only been on the job for less than a week, but this didn't seem right to me.

I asked him numerous times, "You are with Embarq?" Which he responded, yes, I am an employee of Embarq. I said to him "This doesn't sound right." He assured me he was an Embarq employee and asked me to verify the phone numbers.

As I started to give him the numbers, I thought, this doesn't sound right. I asked him for the phone number to verify this and he gave me a toll free number. I asked him repeatedly for his name and all he kept saying was "all you need is my employee number to verify."

Ok! So I verified the phone numbers and again repeated, you are with Embarq? Again he replied YES! Then he said to me, "I just need you to repeat your name and company name" I did.

He then says, "On behalf of Embarq I want to thank you" We then ended the call.

I immediately called the number he had given me and it was not in service. I then called Embarq and the representative I spoke to said it sounds like I'd been slammed. Slammed? What was that? Well after she explained that to me, she said they could not change my service without a third party verification, (which there wasn't one) and I was not authorized on the account to change services. I thought great, no problem.

Wrong!!! Not only did they change my service, I was hit with outragous bills, not only from SILV Communications but from Embarq because changing carriers voided my bundles.

What a scam. I called Embarq and got the long distance thing straightened out and we got back on track, or so I thought. Low and behold I get another bill with the same charges for another month.

When I called SILV to complain they had no right to change the service, the representative there played my taping and I hit the roof. NEVER was I told I was being recorded, nor did the representative that called me ever say he was with SILV Communications. The recording was obviously dubbed over.

How do you prove this? How can we stop this?

I got on line and found others who have been slammed by this company. How can they keep getting away with this? When will the FCC or Attorney General, but an end to this company who is ripping off so many people? Why are the big phone companies not willing to help but an end to SILV slamming their customers? Why, because the big companies seem to profit from the little guy getting slammed.

If anyone calls you claiming to be your phone company: get their name and employee number, and then hang up immediately and call your phone company and ask to speak to a representative.
