Beware of this scam! Fraudulent sales of union member referrals

We were recently contacted by a company about our listings on a website called www.unitedworkforce.org. They informed us and showed us complaints posted on this particular forum. It looks we were also scammed and burned by unitedworkforce.org in Las Vegas. We signed up and paid for a spot on their so called union member referral website in mid 2008 because we were convincingly told that the site receives over 4 million unique hits a month from union members.

We have not received one call from anybody that is a member of a union. We have called around to many local union halls, they have never heard of them. We also discovered the other companies listed on their site (including some Attorneys) have heard NOTHING!!! Luckily we only spent $299 with them, we were also contacted by their very pushy marketing guy named Howard Brandwein. He tried to get us to spend more for a banner but we told him to take a hike.

We showed the site to a friend of ours who is in management for a large Labor Union in California. He told us that he has never heard of unitedworkforce.org and that it was more than likely a scam. He referred us to a service that will tell you how get into local union halls yourselves and it only cost $69. So far, we have had 3 successful appointments from using this other service and more coming in 2009. If you would like to use this other service we used reply to this post and we will reply back with the details.

in the meantime. About unitedworkforce.org. We will be filing a complaint with our credit card company. As we have discovered, there are many other companies on their site that have been misled and spent quite a bit more. It was suggested to us to start notifyimg the other companies on their site and show them the complaints and how how to file a complaint on this and the other forums. We haven't yet decided when we will start.

Here's some information we found you might want to check out about deceptive and fraudulent sales tactics. The National Fraud Information Center maintains a toll-free Consumer Assistance Service, (800) 876-7060, to provide information about telephone or mail solicitations and online scams. They also tell consumers how and where to report fraud and how to file complaints.

The Federal Trade Commission publishes free brochures that explain fraudulent sales practices and how you can avoid them. For a complete list of publications, write for Best Sellers, Public Reference, Federal Trade Commission, Washington, DC 20580; (202) 326-2222; TDD (202) 326-2502.

If you are a company that has signed up with unitedworkforce.org, we would strongly suggest that you try to get your money back!

It looks like they're accumulating more and more complaints. A bad reputation spreads quickly and eventually the law of averages will come into play and with enough registered complaints, their shell game will eventually be discovered by the Attorney General and Nevada Consumer Affairs Enforcement Division and will hopefully be shut down.
