Sara advertised on craigslist that she would clean for $20/hour, including "getting on her hands and knees and scrubbing grout if necessary". Our work wasn't that hard and we had her come out to clean our house. She worked for 5 hours and did a reasonable amount of work for that time, then said she had to go. The house was nowhere near clean yet (it's 4700 SF, we wouldn't expect it to be in 5 hours).
Here's the rub. When she was ready to go, she told my wife "this was more work than I thought, I want $400.00". What?! $20/hr * 5hr = $100! My wife ended up writing her a check for $150 because the woman wouldn't leave. I found this out less than an hour after she left and we called the bank to issue a stop payment on the check. She'd already cashed it, I guess she's used to this happening.
