Notebook computer damaged after shipping UPS - they refuse to step up Atlanta Georgia

I shipped a tablet pc notebook computer via UPS. When the receiver inspected the unit the bottom of the CPU unit had been tweaked, cracked and actually broken. Pictures (which were emailed to me by the receiver) help illustrate but the unit is absolutely damaged as a result of utilizing UPS. The box which prior to shipping was crisp and new, adequate shipping material was included - I used a box with material specifically designed for notebook computer shipping. When it was received the box had obviously been very badly compressed, the corners were ragged & dog earred and there were now three good size puncture holes in the box.

I phoned UPS as soon as I received word that there was a problem with the shipment and advised the customer service rep of what happened and that I intended to file a claim for the damages since my shipping cost included $500 for insurance. She advised me that UPS would pick the unit up and from that point on I would need to direct any further inquiry with the retail Shipping Store where the shipment originated.

Today in a follow up phone call to UPS I have discovered that even though no claim was on file and that no claim had been initiated by virtue of my phone call to them previously - someone had denied a claim and was returning the notebook computer to me.

I am extremely frustrated and have been ripped off!!! As a result of choosing UPS and even paying for INSURANCE to protect me against loss or damage - they are saying there was 'insufficient packing material'. Once again, I used a box designed specifically for shipping notebook computer provided to me by HP. Unbelievable. UPS advised me to go back to the retail Shipping Store and tell them I wanted to file a 'Disputed Claim Report'.

I regret using UPS. They are not only dragging their feet but have also refused to accept responsibility for their own action which damaged my notebook computer.in my case the insurance is apparently worthless but I am vigorously following up and refuse to accept their denial of responsibility.
